About this role
Reporting to the Deputy Data Center Senior Manager, the Data Center Engineers will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations and smooth running of the Data Centers. They will be responsible for ensuring data center facility uptime and systems availability, working in liaison with the Network Operations Center to monitor and respond to alarms from data center facility components, including generators, cooling units, UPS systems, and other critical infrastructure. They will prepare maintenance schedules and maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities performed, including the date, time, and scope of work completed. The successful candidates will also be responsible for installing and routing power cables, carrying out cable terminations, and providing the necessary technical support for the installation of new racks and cooling equipment within the Data Centers. In addition, they will manage and support data center operations and lead the Technical Operations Team in collaboration with all key stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- The successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations and maintenance schedules, as well as ensuring the availability of power, cooling, and other critical systems across all Data Centers
- The Engineers will be responsible for the daily operation and management of the Data Center infrastructure.
- The team will carry out periodic preventive maintenance on the Data Centers power and cooling infrastructure, including generator servicing and the replacement of oil and other consumables, servicing of power distribution boards, and servicing of cooling units.
- The Engineers will ensure that the fire suppression and detection systems in every Data Center are inspected and serviced quarterly.
- The Engineers will develop and document an annual timetable and maintenance schedule for the various Data Center infrastructure elements and prepare the corresponding annual maintenance budget.
- The Engineers will provide 24/7 coverage of the Data Centers and carry out the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the power and cooling systems, fire suppression system checks, and preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- The Engineers will develop and document maintenance schedules for all equipment, prepare the procedures to be followed, develop maintenance checklists, and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
- The Engineers will maintain an inventory of the power, cooling, and fire suppression equipment installed at each site. The inventory will include equipment details, rated capacity, utilized capacity, and available capacity for the rectifiers, UPS systems, and cooling systems.
- The Engineers will prepare and maintain inventory records and floor plans for the Data Halls and power rooms, clearly indicating the services and equipment installed in each Data Hall for example, the number of racks allocated to Cloud, Core, Transmission, and other services.
- The Engineers will work 8 shifts covering the morning, afternoon, and night periods. During their assigned shifts, they will be responsible for the hands-on, day-to-day operation of the Data Centers.
- The Engineers will maintain daily logs and rosters covering the power systems, outages, fuel levels, and fuel inventory. They will immediately report any system interruptions and observations relating to power or cooling failures to the Deputy Data Center Manager.
Experience / Skills
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a reputable university.
- Experience: Minimum 2 Years Experience in the Data center field or in heavy power industry will be an added advantage.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and good in computer skills and knowledge.
- Have some knowledge of project management skills.
- Have some knowledge in a facility or Energy monitoring system
- Have proficiency in written and spoken English Language.
