Role Overview The Project Accountant will manage day-to-day financial operations for the project “Improving Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Support and Access for Hard-to- Reach Rural Communities in Jowhar District, Hirshabelle State, Somalia”, funded by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF).
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Oversee project finances, process transactions according to policies, and ensure proper budget execution alongside the Project Manager.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date accounting documentation, prepare financial reports, and handle schedules for donor and internal reviews.
- Budgeting & Compliance: Monitor expenditures, identify budget variances, assist with forecasting/cash flow, and ensure adherence to donor rules and GAAP.
- Verification & Audits: Verify invoices, payments, and advance retirements, while supporting audits, spot checks, and internal controls.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration,
or a related field. Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA) preferred.
- Experience:3–5years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 2 years in project-based or donor-funded contexts.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or SAP).
- Languages: Fluency in English and Somali
