About the assignments and programmes

Braintec delivers consulting, advisory and implementation assignments across the Horn and East Africa. Its work spans market systems development, private sector development, enterprise support, institutional strengthening, investment readiness, inclusive finance and related development initiatives.

Assignments may involve coordination with enterprises, community institutions, authorities, development partners, financial institutions and other public and private sector stakeholders.

The Regional Operations Officer supports the effective field delivery of Braintec assignments by coordinating operational activities, stakeholder engagement, field teams, technical inputs, reporting and implementation follow-up across assigned locations.

The Opportunity

Braintec is seeking an experienced Regional Operations Officer to coordinate field operations and support the effective delivery of Braintec assignments across designated locations in Somalia and, where required, the wider region.

This is a cross-cutting operational role that serves as a key interface between Braintec’s technical teams, management, partners and local stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director- Strategy, Partnerships & Public Sector Advisory, the successful candidate will coordinate field planning and delivery, maintain stakeholder relationships, resolve operational bottlenecks, and ensure that field realities inform management decisions and assignment delivery. The role will also provide first-line field support on enterprise/BDS and water infrastructure and O&M matters, working closely with Braintec’s specialist technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Regional Coordination & Operational Delivery

- Lead coordination and operational delivery of Braintec activities at field level (peri-urban project sites and surrounding rural areas)

- Support field-level planning, scheduling, and sequencing of assessments, advisory services, technical support, capacity building and other assignment activities.

- Track progress of Braintec-supported activities, clients, partners and beneficiaries within assigned locations and ensure timely delivery of outputs.

- Ensure continuity of operations across partners, actors, and institutions within assigned locations.

- Regional Coordination & Operational Delivery

- Lead coordination and operational delivery of Braintec activities across the peri-urban and including surrounding rural areas.

- Undertake regular travel across the corridor to engage programme beneficiaries, enterprises, water service providers, community institutions, and other market actors.

- Support field-level planning, scheduling and sequencing of assessments, advisory services, technical support, capacity building and other assignment activities.

- Track progress of Braintec-supported activities, clients, partners and beneficiaries and ensure timely implementation and follow-up.

- Coordinate field deployment of Braintec specialists and ensure continuity of operations across the corridor.

- Enterprise, Technical & O&M Support

- Support identification, onboarding and basic profiling of water service providers, SMEs, community-managed systems and other programme beneficiaries.

- Provide first-line support to enterprise/BDS diagnostics and improvement activities, including follow-up on business practices, operational performance and agreed improvement actions.

- Support field-level water infrastructure and O&M assessments, including basic assessment of system functionality, maintenance practices, operational constraints and service-delivery issues.

- Follow up with beneficiaries on implementation of business, operational and O&M improvement actions and escalate specialist technical, engineering, financial or investment issues to the relevant Braintec technical team.

- Support collection and validation of enterprise, infrastructure and operational performance data required for programme monitoring and decision-making.

- Data, Management & Inclusion

- Support data collection and reporting in coordination with the Business Intelligence & Analytics Specialist.

- Support adoption of accountability and operational management mechanisms at local level.

- Monitor stakeholder engagement quality and ensure inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups.

- Documentation & Knowledge Management

- Support documentation of field-level lessons learned, case studies, and scalable practices.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Water Resources, Development Studies, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or another relevant discipline. A master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.

Professional Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate;

- Minimum 5 – 7 years’ professional experience in field operations, programme coordination, or stakeholder engagement roles within donor-funded programmes.

- Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and activities at field/field level.

- Strong experience engaging authorities, regulators, consortium partners, and community actors.

- Experience working alongside humanitarian actors and NGOs to align emergency and development interventions.

- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, including access, security, and stakeholder-related challenges.

- Prior experience working in Somalia is highly desirable, with strong familiarity with the relevant local and regional operating contexts considered a strong advantage.
